A worn facade lowers a building’s value and energy performance. We explain the benefits of facade renovation, the process steps and what to watch for on occupied buildings.

Cracked render, faded paint, leaking windows and a dated look… A worn facade is not just an aesthetic problem; it directly lowers a building’s market value, rental income and energy performance. Facade renovation is the most effective way to solve all of these with a single investment.

Benefits of facade renovation

  • Higher value: a modern facade noticeably increases sale and rental values.
  • Energy savings: ventilated facades and insulation reduce heating and cooling costs.
  • No more damp and mould: leaks and condensation are permanently resolved.
  • Corporate image: commercial buildings strengthen brand perception.
  • Less maintenance: modern claddings need no painting or repair for years.

Cladding options for older buildings

The most popular solution for existing buildings is a ventilated facade system installed over the old facade. The substructure is anchored to the existing wall, stone wool insulation is placed behind, and the facade is clad with composite panels, HPL, ceramic or metal. Windows can be replaced with thermally broken aluminium joinery at the same time.

The renovation process

  1. Condition survey: render, load-bearing walls and anchorable zones are inspected.
  2. Design and renders: the new facade is visualised in 3D.
  3. Owners’ / management approval: for apartment buildings we prepare a visual and quotation pack to support the decision.
  4. Detailed design: anchors, substructure and insulation are detailed.
  5. Installation: scaffolding, removal, substructure, insulation and cladding.

Working on occupied buildings

On occupied offices, factories, hotels and apartment blocks, the programme is split into phases. Noisy work is scheduled at suitable times, entrances and escape routes are protected, and safety measures are kept at the highest level.
