The glass facade is the strongest expression of modern architecture: it brings light, transparency and prestige to a building and, when designed correctly, contributes to energy efficiency. At Mercan Facade Cladding we design, fabricate and install curtain wall systems for offices, towers, shopping centres, hotels, hospitals and industrial buildings in Bursa.
System options for curtain walls
Every building has different needs. The right system is chosen by evaluating architectural intent, wind load, facade height and budget together:
- Structural silicone glazing: glass is bonded to the frame with structural silicone and no profiles are visible from outside, creating a seamless, mirror-like surface.
- Capped curtain wall: glass is mechanically fixed with external aluminium caps. Vertical and horizontal lines are pronounced; a safe solution for tall buildings and high-wind areas.
- Semi-capped curtain wall: caps on only the vertical or horizontal lines, creating a rhythmic, balanced facade language.
- Spider (point-fixed) glazing: frameless glass carried by stainless steel fittings — ideal for entrance halls and atriums.
- Glass balustrades and canopies: safe and elegant balcony, terrace and entrance solutions in laminated tempered glass.
Energy efficiency and comfort
The key to curtain wall performance is the right choice of glass and profile. With thermally broken aluminium profiles and double or triple insulated glazing with Low-E and solar control coatings, we control heat loss in winter and overheating in summer. Where needed, acoustic laminated glass minimises traffic and city noise.
A process that starts with engineering
Safety is the most critical aspect of any curtain wall. On every project we calculate wind loads according to TS EN 1991 and size profile sections and anchor details accordingly. We do not start fabrication until thermal expansion, building movement and water drainage have been detailed. After installation we carry out water tests at critical zones to verify watertightness.
A curtain wall is the most visible face of a building — and its hardest-working part, meeting wind, sun and rain every day.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between structural silicone and capped curtain walls?
In a structural silicone curtain wall, the glass is bonded to the frame with structural silicone and no profiles are visible from outside, creating a seamless, mirror-like look. In a capped system, the glass is mechanically fixed with external aluminium caps and the vertical and horizontal lines are pronounced. Semi-capped systems have caps on only the vertical or horizontal lines.
How are thermal and acoustic insulation achieved in curtain walls?
With thermally broken profiles, double or triple insulated glazing units with Low-E and solar control coatings, warm-edge spacers and correct EPDM gasket details. For acoustic insulation, laminated acoustic glass is preferred.
